The Australian Government’s $5 billion Future Drought Fund provides secure, continuous funding for initiatives that will help farmers and regional communities to become more prepared for, and resilient to, the impacts of droughts.

It was recently announced that the Fund’s eight foundation programs will begin rolling out from July 2020 and will include funding for:

  • best practice business planning
  • information for decision-making
  • the adoption of research and technologies
  • ways to improve the resilience of the soil and vegetation on which farmers depend.

It is expected that communities will also benefit through improved regional planning, networks and leadership capabilities.

Both advice from the independent Future Drought Fund Consultative Committee and input from communities and industry during a national public consultation process were used to design the initial programs.

Further information about the Future Drought Fund’s foundation programs is available on the Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment’s website.
