The summary

As we approach the end of the year, there are 205 current paid up and complimentary members – termed as ‘active’ members.  Unfortunately, we have had to relegate those members from 2017 who have not paid their 2018 memberships to the ‘inactive’ category.

The detail

Of the 193 members who were financial in 2017, 155 have renewed in 2018.  This means that 38 of those 2017 members did not renew, which is disappointing.  However, their details are not lost and they can always re-join in the future – indeed they will be encouraged to do so!

We have recruited a number of new or re-joined paid members – 16 in total – through this year, which is encouraging.  Some of these people who have joined in the last month will have their membership carried through to the end of 2019.

We have 34 complimentary members, being Editors of the Journal, RMN and Social media, the chair of the Publications Committee, Associate Editors and prize winners from conferences.  Sadly, the complimentary memberships for prize winners from recent conferences will become ‘inactive’ at the end of 2018, but we will be encouraging them to take up paid memberships for 2019 and beyond.

The number of Institutional Subscribers to the Journal has remained almost the same for several years.  Although the Society does not benefit financially from their patronage, through the Journal, they provide the ARS with very wide exposure across the world.

Next year

The good news is that we already have 61 members for 2019, being complimentary members, those who have paid for three year memberships in the past, and some recent joined new members who will have their membership carried through to the end of 2019.

For the remainder, expect to see renewal notices in your e-mail inbox either late in December 2018 or early in January 2019.  And remember – ARS members will enjoy concessional registration rates at next year’s Biennial Conference, being held in Canberra in September 2019.
