The 4th session of the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA) recently passed Resolution L.17 related to sustainable rangelands and pastoralism.  It is a very significant achievement to have a successful resolution specifically related to rangelands and pastoralism (compared to having a sentence embedded into another wider resolution) and indicates that governments and other stakeholders are becoming increasingly aware of the importance of this issue.

The final text of the Resolution can be found at http://web.unep.org/environmentassembly/ministerial-declaration-resolutions-and-decisions-unea-4.

The United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) has also produced a report highlighting knowledge gaps about sustainability in pastoralism and rangelands.  The UNEP Gap Analysis report can be found at http://www.grida.no/publications/428.
